Funerals?? I went to a funeral last night. The deceased was spiritual for sure, but not terribly religious, but the service was all about God and barely even mentioned the deceased. Of course, the main function of a funeral is to give the family solace, and I hope it did that, but I felt kind of gyped. I wanted to remember her, celebrate her life and who she was. So what do you want for your funeral? Or what do you not want for your funeral? Just wondering... mr. danger - they have green funerals now. You probably can get precisely what you want. :-) And I take your swat about "gypped." I know. sorry.
Do you think attending unknown funerals is good research for writing a funeral scene? I am writing a funeral scene for my soon to be finished book. What is the social norm, regarding funerals for family members who aren't your direct family? Sorry if this is a tacky question, but i'm just wondering. Our family has been really close, as far as always visiting aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I am sure i would be expected to attend all of their funerals, even if it means taking off work. But would the boss be tolerant of taking off half a day (or even longer if they live in another state) just to attend an aunt or uncle or cousin's funeral? I have a feeling i would get "demerits" for that.

How do Muslim funerals differ in the US compared to other countries? I know in some countries the body is cleaned immediately, wrapped and buried in the ground. In the US there are burial rules where the body is em-bombed, placed in a casket, a steel container is placed in the ground and the casket placed inside it. In the US do Muslim funerals have to follow the above rules?

What funerals are you obligated to attend? There's a funeral coming up, my uncle that I never really knew that well. I hate funerals like most and don't wanna attend. If you were me would you attend? I feel guilty for some reason like it's an obligation to the family "to be there" but if I didn't take the time to get to know him when he was alive why do it when he's dead? I will just be like the guy who only goes to church on Christmas. Where do you draw the line on funerals, immediate family, close friends?
What are the types of honor guards for funerals? There are these honor guards that show up to funerals and stop the protesters from harming or disturbing the families and sometimes show up to the airport to greet them. I would need to know contact information or at least some sort of website.

How Many Funerals Do You Attend in Your Lifetime? How many? 5-6? Isn't this the reason why death seems such a distant thing and that's why we tend to forget that we're here only temporarily? Yes, we hear about death every day: but it usually happens to people who are not related to us. That's why we are fooled into thinking that death is something which doesn't really happen very often. Imagine people we know were dying around us constantly - like we'd have to attend at least 5 funerals a year. Wouldn't it be a reminder to us all that we are here only temporarily? Just a thought...
where can i get a list of soldiers funerals? I am concerned with the protesting of soldiers funerals and have started a FB page (Standing against military funeral protestors). However I need a list of soldiers funerals so that we may show up to support the family of the fallen. Do you know where I can get this list?
Why should people have to go to funerals if they dont want to? Whats the point? Why would anyone want to go to a funeral? All it does it makes them 100 times more sad? I hate going to funerals but my parents always force me. Why do people wear fancy black clothes at a funeral? And why do people visit gravesites annually? Dead people cant see them them.
Why don't Christians consider Christian funerals to be a celebration? When a believer goes to his eternal reward and to be in Heaven with Christ forever, shouldn't that be something to celebrate joyously? Why then, don't we see more celebration and joy at Christian funerals? Why are they still full of grief and mourning? While there is sorrow at the loss, shouldn't there be much more joy at the fact that a fellow believer - friend and family member - is in the glorious presence of God? As a rule, you don't see this sort of joy at Christian funerals. Why not?
Do you think its wrong to sell sandwiches and drinks at Funerals? I run this lunch truck and fell behind on sales last month,so my cousin and i thought it would be a good idea to pull up at Funerals and sell some sandwiches and drinks. The people called the cops and said we were "in violation of code" What gives i said? I know when my wife died i was hungry as hell. I forgott to say that i did get fined, but only for a parking violation. and the cop had a philly cheese steak.
How long does it take for funerals to be planned? My parents know a young man who died suddenly today. We are planning on going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving but may cancel or shorten it if the funeral is around thanksgiving. They are a mormon family if that helps(they may not have it on certain days?). Do you think the funeral would fall on Thanksgiving or this weekend or would that be too soon?
Am I a bad person for not wanting to go to funerals? I'm a guy in my early 20's and people keep dying where I know them fairly well but I don't really know there family that much. Is it alright that I don't want to go to the funeral. I look at it like the funeral is for the family and I don't see how me going is going to comfort them in any way. Personally I'm very uncomfortable at anything dealing with death and have skipped out on like 5 funerals in the last couple years. Is that wrong?

What does everyone think of those chcikenshit cowards that protest at Military funerals? These people that go to the fallen soldiers funerals to protest. Where was that zipperhead Sheehan or fatass Micheal Moore. My opinion is let the people around them decide their fate. Me I would shoot everyone of one of gutless baitches. Does everyone also realize that Sheehan left her son when he was 5. Now she is going thru another divorce and also leaving another child behind. Yes it's their rights. But inexcusible for doing that to anyones family. Also how much has Michael Moore given back with all the money he made....$0.00 goes to political oppisition All great answer so far wish one of those retarded picketeers would open his piehole. How do Christians feel about the Westboro Baptist Church picketing at gay peoples funerals? Whilst i respect that people are entitled to their religion, i think that picketing outside the funeral of a dead homosexual, with slogans like "GOD HATES F*GS" is offensive, pervasive, insensitive and highly intrusive, not only to the gay person, but also to their family and friends. Many Christians condemn these hateful acts, so i would like to hear the opinions from the Christian folk on this forum.
Where can I find information about Jazz Funerals? Or can someone tell me a little bit about it? I'm actually doing research on Creole and Cajun funeral rituals/customs, but it's been slow going because there's not much mentioned on the web about it. I'd really like to know how much it has changed, people's reactions, and other customs they like to do-- for example, I heard that people typically shouldn't wear jewelry for six months as a form of mourning. Thank you!
All: Do you find yourselves annoyed with religion in funerals? I recently went to a funeral for a family member and was surprised that it was mainly about the religion and not about the deceased. It was a simon says game of: stand up, pray, sit down, listen to a message about eternal suffering, stand up, sing, pray, sit down, amen. As an atheist, I was disturbed. I found it depressing and dissappointing they did not speak about the deceased, is this a normal thing for funerals?
Is a black tie only appropriate for funerals? I'm going to a high school formal dance which requires a suit. The only tie I've got is a black one that I bought on sale years back. I've heard some people say that black ties are only appropriate for funerals and are not good for any other social gatherings such as a dance. Is this true? And what are the appropriate occasions for a black colored tie?

Every HDB block has void deck, which the first storeyof the HDB block and it is a empty space and it is big enough to be used to be use for funerals or weddings. Hence, a lot of funerals and weddings are done there. So, do you think that it is a unique thing to do? As in, have you ever found people in other country doing that?

Why do they never allow the family to see the lowering of the casket at funerals? I've always wondered this. There was this one funeral that I remember in particular. My aunt's friend had lost her son, and at the burial site the mother asked if she could see stay and him go down one last time but the answer that she recieved was no. Is there a reason why they do this? Why do they always wait for the family members to leave in order to lower the coffin?
why do people of certain denominations carry bibles with them to funerals and church? When at work i notice people of certain catholic based denominations carry bibles with them. I have also seen this at certain churches. They never use them during the ceremonies, they just carry them around. I'm just curious why. Does someone keep tabs on you? xandrewx, im not sure if you read my details, but these people were at funerals...at a mortuary. they weren't there to take classes. After i posted the question, i spent a few days asking around. A lot of the people i asked said that they didnt want to be seen NOT carrying a bible, because everyone else did. Seems weird.
Do you cry at most Funerals, or do you hide your emotions in public? I wonder what the average person does at a funeral or funeral home. Most of us were told that showing extreme emotions in public is wrong but others do not care what society says and will cry like crazy at funerals. I went to a funeral last week where not a tear was shed and everyone seemed so up and friendly. But another one I went to the women's daughter could not stop crying and everyone seemed so embarrassed when she just kept wailing and crying for her dead Mother. What would you think?
Has anyone here heard of people protesting funerals? Have you heard of this group of people who protest Soldier funerals? This upsets me on many levels but mostly cause I love a soldier and I have known men who lost their lives. I don't understand what would drive a group to do this and disrespect people to this degree. I feel we are all entitled to our opinions however I think this is where the line is crossed. Please I would just like to know if anyone knows what the deal is with this.
Why do some people pretest at service members funerals? I have attended two funerals of my fellow service members who have fallen in Iraq and Afganitan and protesters showed up and burned the American Flag and screamed some pretty verble remarks. Is it wrong not to go to funerals? I never go to funerals, for friends or relatives. I feel that it serves no closure whatsoever. If anything, it makes things worse. I really don't understand how it is so popular to stand around and view the deceased person. It's kind of grotesque if you really think about it. I think that funerals should be out in a garden or park to celebrate the life of the person. Kind of like a happy send off, not in a stuffy funeral parlor. Am i crazy?
How much money do you give for funerals? I am just wondering when you go to a funeral, how much money do you give to the family? How does it differ for extended family members, vs. close friends, vs. more distant friends, coworkers? Thanks!
