How do you have a funeral for a family pet?
My dog kept having "mistakes" in the house so I put him outside. Well, he got in a fight with a couple of bigger dogs and they killed him. I put him on the trash pile but they haven't picked him up yet. My son noticed him on the trash pile and tried to pick him up. He was so upset when he realized that he was dead. Now I need to have a funeral. Any ideas? Does anyone have any special pet prayers? Should I invite his puppies?

- yeah invite his puppys thats a cute idea!! have everyone where black && white (since they see in those colors!) Play his fave music! IDK what else
- You need to dig a hole and make a marker. There are no standard prayers, but your son may want to give a eulogy. Unless you still have his puppies, or have some continued acquaintance with the families these dogs are now in I wouldn't invite them.
- This entire story is AWFUL! BUT, instead of harassing you about how you did things...like I know some others probably will. I will try to stick to answering the question. First, you could have buried the dog instead of throwing it away. Instead of trying to hide it from your son in the first place, let him know. Death is a part of life and is a lesson everyone has to learn at some point. Hiding it just makes it worse. Let your son decorate a tombstone made out of some sticks or a rock. Put it somewhere special. Let your son say something about the dog. Then you say something. Put some flowers by the rock or something.
- well as a teenager... a pet loss is really upsetting so have your son talk about his life say a couple of words and bury the dog with a makeshift tombstone or something...i'm sorry about your loss
- Invite family, friends, and neighbors who all knew and loved your dog and definatly invite his puppies. You could talk to your vet about cremation whcih surprisingly isn't that expensive for dogs so your son can keep him. You could also talk to your vet about barial sites they have designated for dogs so you don't have to have him in your yard. I'm sorry about that.
- Aw I am so sorry about your loss: *Ask your son ( or other children) to decorate a shoe box or some kind of box that you can put the dog in. * Bury it in a special place ( maybe your son's choice since he feels strongly about that dog) * Put a rock on top. or go to Michaels and buy those cement things you can stick jewels on. * Start by letting the family share there favorite moments with the dog. Talk on how it is in a better place. * Place some flowers on the grave. I think inviting the puppies would be a nice. Make sure you sit down with your son and let him understand about deaths and such. I am sorry about the dog. :( good luck
- awwww im so sorry! loseing a family pet can be so hard. inviteing the puppies would be a cute idea. you dont have to say any prayrs but have ur son say something about the pet then u say something and so on
- I am so sorry about your loss I will pray for you and your son. Why not have a speacial place that was his favorite place plant a memorial site with plants and flowers ect . Plant Hostas if it was a shady place. Or Flowers if it is a sunny place. Put Gardening statues like angels and the birdbath feeders ect in that area. Make it look really pretty. Put him in the ground in a box or garbage bag and get a head stone. They have them for pets at your local (Home Depot) Walmart or any store for the Home that has gardening supplies. They say inspirational messeges on them. Here lies our blessed pet. pray personally and thank God with your son for the years that you had him over the site and commit him into God's hands. Share with each oterh and talk abnout memorable moments. If you have pics of the dog make a collage for your son. Sample Prayer:: Lord Jesus thank you for all the years we had precious ___ in our lives that you for the companionship he gave us and what a blessing he was and all the funny momments and precious times. Lord thank you for such a sweet animal companion and family member. Lord we commit___ ' spirit into Your hands and we release Him to you Please heal comfort our hearts from the loss of our beloved pet. Jesus Name Amen! you also can invite his puppies if you so choose.
- You put your dog in with the trash? Wow. For health and emotional reasons, you probably should have called a local agency to remove your dog. But it's too late for that now. There is no set of rules for having a funeral for a pet. Invite those who loved your pet to bid farewell. I am not sure about pet prayers, but here is a link to a variety of pet memorial poems. You may find one that you'd like to read at the funeral. http://www.heykee.com/poems.html
