What should i wear to a funeral?

I am a guy and i havent been to many funerals before. I do NOT own a suit and i dont know what i should wear? any thoughts? and is that ok if i do not wear a suit? the funeral was short notice for me and i dont have time to go a rent one, it wouldnt be in in time. and it is a friend, not a family member.

2. You could wear a black dress shirt or sweater with dark pants. This is acceptable in place of a suit.
3. Wear a pair of khaki pants and a dark button down shirt, with a tie and jacket if you own one or can borrow one from your dad or male relative. The most important thing is to not wear anything garish or sloppy, and definitely don't wear jeans or tennis shoes.
4. Dress pants or khakis and a dark colored button down shirt. Black is preferable but not required. Dress shoes also are a must. DO NOT WEAR TENNIS SHOES!!!!
5. It is ok for you not to we at a suit. I recommend you wear black slacks and any dark colored button down shirt that has a collar and a dark tie. Funerals require dark clothes, not necessarily head to toe black clothing, but there is nothing wrong with that either. If you don't have a shirt like the one described, wear a dark colored sweater.
6. Just wear black slacks if you have them and a nice button down shirt, the darker the better.
7. Wear black pants, NOT jeans. and a black fancy shirt. and dont do ur hair too well itll look like u care more abour how u look than what ur wearing. and some shoes NO sneeks. And u should care more for that friend.
8. Darker colors are usually preferred, but not always required. A nice shirt, not a screen tee or something you'd wear to the grocery store. If you have any nice work clothes, those would be acceptable. And, I'm repeating a few other people, but, no tennis shoes. Hope this helps some.
9. Well Black Dress Shoes; Either Khakis or black slacks; and a dark dress shirt....Preferably black. If you want to wear a tie, Get one that is a darker gray maybe with white or black on it too. You can also just ask; Just say... I dont know if I am supposed to wear something special...What would you suggest. That would give you an idea of what they would expect.
