  1. 1. Weeks is an exaggeration, but a funeral could last a few days. The body is not on display all this time, but the life of the person is celebrated whilst the body is kept refrigerated in the mortuary. Here is the description of one such funeral, lasting three days .... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/inatl/longterm/africanlives/ghana/ghana.htm 2. There can be a deliberate delay in burying the deceased, in order to make all the arrangements, including gathering all the family members together. Here is the description of a funeral which took place two months after death .... http://www.ghana.gov.gh/ghana/promoting_ghana_through_funeral_carnivals.jsp 3.Here is some further information about Ghanaian funerals .... http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/photo.day.php?ID=52081 http://www.oxfam.org.uk/coolplanet/ontheline/explore/journey/ghana/funerals.htm http://www.ghanafunerals.com/Ghana/indexghana.htm
