Why was black chosen to be the color of mourning/funerals?
What is it about colors in funerals, why can't people go in red suits and yellow dresses and pink ties? I always wondered why the color black?

- because black is a disgraceful color
- black id the color of death, or the ending of something that was once in its life. You never see the grim reaper in pink, do you?
- It's all part of the govmn'ts plan to keep the black man down.
- Death
- Tradition, I guess.
- Black signifies darkness, no more life!
- where i'm from you wear black if you are not family of the person who died, and white if you are family. i think it's just tradition.
- Other colours are perhaps too flashy. Black is dark. Death is dark. Anyone wearing red or pink or some other bright colour to a funeral is someone who wants the attention for them self.
- Black has been, for ages, the symbol for mourning. To wear bright colors is a sign of disgrace to the family.
