How would you feel attending a funeral with a big sign "I think funerals are stupid- [dead person's name]"?
I'd like to request it at my funeral, but I doubt people would follow my instruction. Like being born into a religion I had no say in, I'll probably be buried after a funeral I didn't want either. If I had a tombstone I'd like the quote "don't you have something better to do than be here?" Funerals are a bit of a non-issue to me.

- Honestly, if you wanted me to, sure I'd do it. Since I don't personally know you however I would request to be paid at least somewhat for my time and I'd want some form of proof it was actually YOU whose funeral I was at so I don't get duped into being a jerk at some random guy's funeral.
- When I die I hope I'm in the woods and not found, the scavengers would benefit then, but funerals cost money and benefit no one.
- Funerals are not for the dead; they're for the living, to help them deal with the grief and heartache that come from losing someone. So if you were my friend and you died and someone held that sign up, I'd be mad at you for interfering with my grieving. Friends help each other out.
- Oh goodness, people don't respect it. My dad hated wakes and didn't want one but his family threw him a 3 day one anyway totally against his wishes. Made me sick. You can arrange it with a lawyer in advance to have someone (a friend or the lawyer himself) be in charge and carry out your wishes, your family would have no say.
- funerals are stupid! not the idea, but the way that we go about them. a funeral should be a celebration of ones life, not a mourning of his passing.
- I would do it for a friend if that is what they wanted provided their family agreed. Funerals are for family and friends to say goodbye to grieve and come to terms with death. It is not really about the person who has died but the ones left behind.
- I feel I'd be disrespecting the person's memory. Seems like you yourself are afraid of death.
- i would think pple would and should respect your wishes.. i would do that if thats what you honestly wanted. have em dress up in white than black then :D orrr juusst get cremated?
- Couldn't you make out a will and request to be cremated instead? Here in the US, if your will states a request, your family cannot contest it. But I couldn't agree more... burying the dead is an awful waste of space, time, and money. "teach the world to use its space wisely for the human race. Because buried bodies only rot and eventually will be forgot." I say give this little poem to your lawyer so you can be disposed of as you wish :-D http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=79932821&blogId=285670515
