How do Christians feel about the Westboro Baptist Church picketing at gay peoples funerals?

Whilst i respect that people are entitled to their religion, i think that picketing outside the funeral of a dead homosexual, with slogans like "GOD HATES F*GS" is offensive, pervasive, insensitive and highly intrusive, not only to the gay person, but also to their family and friends. Many Christians condemn these hateful acts, so i would like to hear the opinions from the Christian folk on this forum.

the thing is, Christians can be really crazy. Especially Baptists. I know, i am one. Personally, i consider myself a Christian, but I'm a more progressive, liberal Christian. I don't particularly support the Gay lifestyle, but that is definitely offensive. I personally believe everyone should be happy and MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS!!

Crazy... Gays have the right to die, just like anyone else. You'd think the Christians would be happy there was one less gay. Not trying to say that as an insult to gays. Just saying - if they're so much against it, why picket a funeral?

The bible is very clear that God feels that this is an abomination. They are following the bible. Either the bible is wrong or they are right. I think any Christian who says differently is ignoring the bible. Personally I think fags are great except Perez Hilton how is a douchebag but I do not think that is related to his sexuality.
I'm not a Christian, but all my Christian friends don't consider WBC Christian at all.
I'm a independent fundamental Baptist and let me tell you, they are not Baptist and the jury is still out if they are even Christian.

I think they are wrong. As a Christian I believe we should not hate homosexuals but love them and reach out to those who want to listen. Picking a funerals is rude and obnoxious.

They are anti-scripture: The Bible says: Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? says the Lord, and not rather that he should turn from his evil way and return [to his God] and live? [Ezekiel 18:23]. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance [2 Peter 3:9].
I am not a Christian but I hate the fact that they do that sh*t at funerals of fallen soldiers. I know that they have their rights but that is too extreme.
OMG I can not believe that people would actually do that? People proclaiming to be christians and full of God's love spreading all that hatred. They should be arrested... that is sacred. Who are we to judge anyone. If that person chose to live an alternate lifestyle why does it bother them? God is not a God of hate ... I attend a church that is open to everyone and I am happy going to worship there.. I would hate to break bread with those people.

i fully denounce the westboro baptist church. they are a prime example that willful ignorance of the bible can lead to being controlled, much like was done during the dark ages. "people can use anything to rationalize hate of a person/people" ~me~ maybe they need to learn the saying "they will know we are Christians by our love."...
im personally agnostic-atheist and to the answer that says christains are ignorant is a bitch because thats only some and how can u paint all of them with one brush?and my aunt is a strong christian and she supports the gays fully. and i go to a catholic school and most of my christian friends support gays and if they dont they dont condemn them.
I think they are hateful people who are a few fries short of a happy meal. I am embarrassed that they claim the same religion I do. While I agree that homosexuality is a sin, my Jesus showed compassion and expressed the need for forgiveness for sin. He then offered that forgiveness with his own blood. Jesus loves sinners, but died so that they may have forgiveness... Not so that the forgiven can hate the lost.
I am Orthodox Christian; I condemn these acts as they do not spread God's or Jesus' love, but man's hate. I personally consider them heretics.
i am a Christian and i completely agree with you. Sorry to sound like im preaching but in my opinion God does not judge anyone. and certainly doesnt hate. hate is a sin and goes against the bibles teachings and commandments. i think anyone who dares do that and still call themselves religious let alone a Christian seriously needs to rethink their priorities. the bible does say that it is not natural for a man to sleep with a man but i think there is no time for that in the 21st century. we cant stick to these silly traditional rules of an age old book when society is moving forward so quickly. I hope people go have left those messages at the funeral should be severely punished for eternity. the bible and every other book in life teaches that love is beautiful no matter where or how or between whom. and im sorry on behalf of those 'christians' who are leaving those messages.
i don't feel anything...............its Freedom of speech...isn't that what YOU claim your rights are also ?? Think about how offensive it is to everyone else when gays march down the streets and perform sexual acts on the streets with each other in front of kids......you didn't whine about that fact did you ? BUt if asked you would say they have freedom of speech and rights too...........SO...one can not have their cake and eat it to as the old saying goes.....its Ok for queers to march.....and do whatever they wish but not for anyone else when it comes to the queers or offending them ? They yell for rights but want everyone else to deny theirs !!!! I say ship them all to an island of their own and there they can make their own laws and fund their own immoral society and its diseases and crimes...and whatever else comes with it...otherwise set down and grin and bare it like others do with you !!!!
Being gay is not right. I think you deserve to be treated like anyone else, but what you do is unnatural.
Homosexuality is not a sin in Christianity (see Acts 10, Matthew 15, Mark 2:23-23), but even if it were, this would be appalling.
Phelps is a horrible example of any demographic group, and I don't believe he should be supported in any way. And its not just homosexuals. He also protests people who support homosexuals, members of the military, and pretty much anyone who disagrees with his point of view. And yes I am Christian (sort of).
The people who did that are not true Christians. True Christians try to love and accept everyone like Jesus did. What those "Christians" did was extremely wrong and I assure you that not all of us are that way.

those who are doing such things are not doing them from God. They are calling God a liar for God says he loved the world, which last I checked included gays. I am angry toward them for spreading these lies, and at the same time pity them for there's is a very small God and one not worthy of praise.
I am a christian and I think that is absolutley terrible. Yes God has law but ultimatley God was LOVE. It would NEVER ever be in his will for someone to disrespect another person like that. I get tired of a bunch of really religious people always preaching about the law without the love and respect people deserve. ( if you do this you will go to hell! if you do that you will be condemed forever!) If any christians think they are doing a justice to the world by holding up all these hate signs and belittleing people who have chosen to live their life this way are seriously fooled. If anything they are driving people away from God's love. and Im not only talking about someone who is gay I am talking about anything else thats is supposedly a sin to really strict people (tattoos,alcohol, whatever) I am sorry if you or anyone you know has ever had to go through this Hell power trip that some christians get on, we're not all like that.

I actually literally just turned in a paper I wrote on them for my Sociology of Religion class. I think they're a horrible representation of Christians and the Bible's message. They only teach hate. Not only do they target gays, they also picket outside soldier's funerals with signs saying things like "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "Thank God for 9/11". According to them God hates everyone, even Mr. Rogers (yes, they protested his funeral too). It's twisted. Please don't think all Christians are this hateful and disrespectful, we're not.
They are possibly the most hateful family in America. Im not even sure why they're here in this country because they are constantly bashing on fallen soldiers, gays jews, people who support gay lifestyle, people who don't condemn the gay lifestyle, people who know Jews, people who like Jews, people who have talked to Jews at some point in their life, the Catholic church, the baptist church, and... oh wait, isn't that EVERYBODY? The father Fred Phelps is a hateful child abuser and avid marijuana smoker (this is true) who has brainwashed his children and his children's children into accepting a dogma built on hate and persecution. They don't actually praise the Lord. They don't have prayer services. They don't even have a church. Their "church" is a ragtag band of racists and bigots who teach young children that homosexuals are less than human and that it is ok to refer to them with hate an obscenity. They go all over the country interrupting solemn tributes to our fallen soldiers who fought and died to give them the right to be fools. Their hate is documented all over youtube. I believe that the gov't should take their children away from them and Fred Phelps should be publicly executed for his hate and the misery he has brought onto this world. If there is a God, he doesnt condone what these devils of people are doing.
Christians love to hate and judge. They can't help themselves. Even the 'liberal christians' make excuses for their 'faith'. It's sickening. Jesus would turn in his grave knowing what sick minds followed him. Any person who thinks they have some 'god given' right to judge another persons life and circumstances without walking in their shoes, is a hypocrite. One of the major leaders in the Christian faith said he was sorry for having sex with young boys. And people let him still preach to them. I wonder who are the truly blind and ignorant?
